A Season of Psalms - Psalm 126:3

Psalm 126:3

The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

New International Version (NIV)

Where is the happiest place on Earth? For almost 60 years, Disneyland and Disneyworld have staked their claim as the “Magic Kingdom” and “The Happiest Place on Earth.” It’s the place where dreams come true, where, according to an advertising campaign that ran in the late 1950s, everything is “more funable!” The Disney parks are a venue of joy and glee and celebration. In fact, that’s their mission statement: “We create happiness by providing the best in entertainment for people of all ages.”

In Psalm 126, we find that the Lord makes dreams come true. Israel’s dreams of restoration after punishment and exile have been fulfilled. They are filled with joy and laughter, and the surrounding nations take notice. Those who once persecuted Israel have been put on notice and will be judged, as we read in the major and minor prophets. The Lord God has done great things for Israel, and He continues to do great and marvelous things for us. We were chosen, before the foundation of the world, to receive every spiritual blessing in Christ. The apostle Paul says, “In Him we live and move and have our being.” We are children of the Most High God, children with a hope and a future! Everything that is excellent and praiseworthy in our lives finds its root and fulfillment in Him; every good and perfect gift comes from above. The next time we are tempted to grouse and complain, we would do well to remember: We are more loved than we can possibly imagine, more blessed than we could ever deserve!

Thanksgiving is just weeks away, but it’s not too early to give glory to the God who has done great things for us. Have you counted your blessings lately? Have you named them one by one? If they can be counted, you will see just what the Lord has done. He truly has done great things for us! Are we filled with joy?

Pray with me:

Lord of heaven and earth, in all things I give you thanks. You have been so, so good to me. The greatest blessing in my life is knowing You and being Your child. Help me to know You more. In the blessed name of King Jesus I pray, Amen.
