A Season of Psalms - Psalm 132:14-18

Psalm 132:14-18

‘This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy. There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him his crown will shine.”

English Standard Version (ESV)

Dwight Moody was once asked how he managed to remain intimate in his daily relationship with Christ. He replied, “I have come to Him as the best friend I have ever found, and I can trust Him in that relationship. I have believed He is Savior; I have believed He is God, I have believed His atonement on the cross is mine, and I have come to Him and submitted myself on my knees, surrendered everything to Him, and gotten up and stood by His side as my friend.” Christ was Dwight Moody’s resting place. Is he ours?

In Psalm 132, the Lord has chosen Zion for His eternal dwelling. Contextually, the psalm reflects 2 Samuel 7:1-17 when David laments that God’s house is a pop-up tent while David dwells in opulence. Through the tabernacle, and later the temple, God dwelt in the midst of people. Now, through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, He dwells in us. Our souls are His resting place forever. While He resides here in our earthly tent, notice His promises to us: He will bless us, satisfy us, clothe us with salvation, and cause us to shout for joy. In Him, we have the hope of eternal life, a glorious future in which His light will shine upon and among His people.

Oliver Holden: “In our sickness and our health, in our want, or in our wealth, if we look to God in prayer, God is present everywhere.” Is Christ your resting place? Have you prayed for Him to fill you today? Be filled…and be blessed!

Pray with me the prayer of St. Patrick:

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me. In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
