A Season of Psalms - Psalm 150:6
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!”
English Standard Version (ESV)
“That’s a wrap!” The first time I heard those words, I was sitting in the audience at a live taping of a TV show called “Mr. Belvedere” in the late 1980s. The actors would run through their scenes several times until the director was satisfied, then he’d yell out “That’s a wrap!” If you’ve never been to a live taping of a TV show, you learn a lot about what goes on behind the scenes. After that particular episode was over, the cast members would come visit the audience and dialogue with us. Even though their work was done for the moment, there was still more to come.
We’ve reached the end of our journey through the book of Psalms that began in early June. We have reached the grand finale, and what could be more appropriate than to find a short, pointed appeal for creation to worship its Creator. Have you counted how many times the psalmist uses the word “praise” in the psalm? 13 times…in 6 verses! The call is clear: we’re to praise the Lord in every place, in every way, for everything He’s done and for all that He is.
We can’t say “that’s a wrap” because God’s praise never ceases. We’ll sing His praise until we take our final breath, but when we’re united with Him in heaven, we’ll join in the great heavenly chorus of the saints. I anticipate that day, when the mass of voices resound, as William MacDonald says, “with the loud, eternal burst of praise to God.” Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
