A Season of Psalms - Psalm 54:7
“For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.”
English Standard Version (ESV)
I enjoy hearing testimonies. Stories of God’s powerful presence and deliverance from difficult situations are never cumbersome or repetitive, and we see God’s mighty hand at work in every person through His grace. At one church that I was privileged to serve, our men’s ministry motto was “You never truly know another person until you know their testimony.” Oh, the stories I’ve heard about God rescuing men from alcoholism, pornography, marital abuse, drugs, immoral lifestyles, attempted suicide. The difficult situations of these men were great, but they came to realize that God is greater still.
This is David’s realization too in Psalm 54:7. When David was fleeing from King Saul, the Ziphites twice revealed his location to the king. They surround and rise up against David. They’ve grown more ruthless with every passing day. There is no fear of God in their eyes as they march against the Lord’s anointed. The psalms are David’s testimony of God’s faithful deliverance. Notice the sudden shift in tone in verses 4-7 compared to the gloominess of verses 1-3. Although the enemy advances, David’s confidence and trust are ever in the Lord, unwavering, because God has proven Himself time and again in David’s life and delivered him from every trouble. This is the testimony of David’s entire life: God is faithful.
What is your story? All of us have a story, a testimony of God’s divine intercession into our lives. Through faith in Jesus, He rescued us from the miry clay and set our feet firmly on the rock. But our story doesn’t end with our salvation. As Paul Harvey says, “And now, the rest of the story.” There are more chapters to be written, more of your story to tell. What will yours say about our faithful God?

Pray with me today:
Father God, we thank You that You are eternally faithful, even when we are faithless. We give you unending gratitude for rescuing us from the treason of our sin through Christ’s shed blood at Calvary. No longer are we children of darkness, but You have welcomed us into the light of eternal life. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
